Who is eligible to participate on WMS Booster Club teams?
Students who are in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade and attend Weddington Middle School are eligible to try out for WMS teams.

Why do you have to tryout for a team?
Please understand that one of the most difficult things for a coach to do is to cut a player from a team.  Some sports allow the Booster Club to take all student athletes that have the desire to play on the team.  Most sports, unfortunately, have a limited number of spots on the team and the coaches utilize a try out to evaluate the skill level of the candidates for the team.   Fortunately,  our area is home to the the WCWAA organization that offers opportunities in many sports if your child does not make a WMSABC team.  We strongly encourage players who do not make the team in their sport to keep playing at WCWAA and try again next season to make the team.

Who runs the Booster club?
The Weddington Middle School Booster club is governed by a board of directors. The WMSABC is both a 501 (c) (3) and an approved parent organization.  This means that we are a non profit organization that must adhere to the rules set forth by the Union County School Board for Parent Organizations.  The WMSABC board is elected every year by the membership of the booster club.  The WMSABC is not affiliated with the Union County schools.  The Booster Clubs mission is to provide athletic opportunities for the students of Weddington Middle School that would not exist without the booster club and its volunteers.  In addition to this goal, a secondary goal of the Booster Club is to work with the Weddington High School athletic programs to prepare WMS students to be ready to compete when they move on to Weddington High School.

Why do I have to pay for my kids to play?
Union Country only offers two school supported sports. These are boys and girls basketball and basketball cheerleading. Every other sport that is offered to middle school students are offered by the booster club.  Because the booster club operates with no support from the school system,  we must generate all of our budget for equipment and facilities from sports fees and fundraising.

What can I do to help?
Volunteer!!!  Every activity that happens with the Booster Club happens because people have volunteered.  In order to ensure that the Booster Club's programs continue to enrich the experience of our middle school students, we need people like yourselves to continue to volunteer to make our program successful.  See any coach, team mom, or board member and ask how you can get involved.
