Go Wildcats!!!!

Hello Wrestling families,
We wanted to give everyone some information regarding the upcoming season  for wrestling. The season will officially start for practice on April 12 and run through May 27 or into June time and space permitting, with registration extended until 4/10/21 with no late fee penalty. We understand some athletes will be participating in other sports prior to the wrestling season and you are welcome to join us when your other seasons are completed.  We understand that some athletes will have conflicts with sports that are not typically during the wrestling season.  We will work with any athletes that choose to participate in multiple sports. We will adjust practice schedules as necessary.  LImited participation is fine. If you want to sign up for wrestling and determine if you can make the practices work before committing to fees that is fine as well.  We plan to have open and live wrestling sessions on Saturdays as well to accommodate schedules and other sports, so we encourage anyone that has an interest please sign up and we will work with you in any way to ensure wrestling opportunities.
This will be a difficult  season for all sports with shortened seasons and over- laps. We won't know our competition schedule for wrestling until late March and it will be more limited than in the past. Our goal for this year is to continue with the commitment to excellence that we have achieved in our program and continue to support the high school program that is growing dramatically as well. Please reach out to Mike Putts or Dennis DiCarlo with any questions or concerns--   /   . We look forward to a shortened but rewarding season with our wrestlers.

Welcome to the 2019-2020 Weddington Middle School Wrestling Team.

Coach DiCarlo will be holding a pre-season camp October 21st through October 24th from 6:00  P.M. to 7:30P.M in the high school auxiliary gym.  Please check in to confirm the time based upon gym availibility.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  It is highly recommended for new wrestlers that do not have conflict with a fall sport to attend some or all of the camp dates.  We will review the fundamentals of wrestling as well as go over the basic drills and practice routines of wrestling.  The camp is not required but recommended for anyone considering wrestling.  After the camp each night Coach DiCarlo will be available to answer any parent questions about the wrestling team whether or not your child participates in the camp.    On Tuesday October 25th there will be a parent meeting at 7:30 right after the camp in the gym.  Wrestling shoes are preferred but we do have some extra shoes and participants can wrestle in socks if necessary.  Please email Coach DiCarlo at Dennis@carpet2go.com with any questions.

Practices will begin Monday, October 28th and the season ends at the end of January.  There will be an extended season for those not in spring sports with a shortened practice schedule.  All of our practices will be at the auxiliary gym at the high school.  You can drop off in the bus parking lot on the left side of the high school.  As of now our practice schedule will be as follows:

  • Monday through Thursday.  The first week of practice will be from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M.  We will be moving the time to 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. after Novemeber 1st based upon gym availibilty.  We will follow up with communcation when the season starts about practice times.

Items needed for practice:

  • Your wrestler will need wrestling shoes for practice.  They should not wear them to practice but change into them when they get to the gym.  If you are looking for shoes you can get them at Dicks Sporting Goods.  An example of one type is ASICS Men's Matflex 5 Wrestling Shoes.
  • If you have a head gear, please bring it.  Head gear will be provided by the school with a deposit.  If you prefer to get your own you can get them at Dicks Sporting Goods as well.  One type to look at is Cliff Keen Twister Wrestling Headgear.
  • There is a water fountain but it is much easier if they bring a personal water bottle with them.

Please email Coach DiCarlo at dennis@carpet2go.com if you have any questions.
